Yesterday my husband told me to go fly a kite.
So I did! And he joined me...
We have been waiting for the right wind speed to fly our kite, for quite some time. Our kite has also been waiting patiently in the trunk of our car for the past couple of years, just in case. Waiting & waiting... & waiting. I sometimes feel like that kite.
Here in the Columbia Basin, where it's mostly high-plains desert, if the wind picks up, so does the dust and dirt and you can't stay outdoors for too long. It all gets in your eyes and lungs. Not fun! Last evening we had the perfect wind! Not too strong, but just enough to carry our kite high above the clouds - or at least above our heads. We drove to the high school down the street where they have huge open sports fields and we found an empty one.
And we flew our kite!
Back to the waiting.... Sometimes I feel like my life is in a holding pattern. Not always, just sometimes. Am I just waiting for something out of the ordinary to happen? Or am I keeping my eyes on today, on the Lord? When I have my eyes open and my heart on the Lord daily, I see those out of the ordinary, nothing spectacular, but truly amazing happenings, each and every day. How about you?
Isaiah 40:28-31 says "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Just like that kite, soaring high above, letting the wind carry it, I too can soar on wings like eagles. As I put my hope in the Lord each day, and receive my strength from Him, I can run and not grow weary, I can walk and not be faint. Take time today to enjoy the little things, the big things, & the in between things. And if you have time, go fly a kite!
Blessings to your day, Paula
